GIANT HEADS have taken over the award-winning Cairn O’ Mohr winery in Errol.
If that fails to raise an eyebrow it’s only because eccentric owner Ron Gillies is no ordinary businessman.
It’s been some years now since Ron branched out into wood sculpture in a bid to add a little colour and interest to the Carse of Gowrie winery.
He has a passion for working with wood and uses a chainsaw to create the sculptures.
And while their creator has received a number of queries over the years about whether his heads are for sale, most have remained on the site.
However, the giant heads are now threatening to take over, such has been Ron’s enjoyment of creating them.
He has already carved 20 and if more are to follow it is clear they will need to find alternative accommodation.
Ron said, “I just started doing the carvings to brighten the place up, but I’ve never really stopped.
“I’ve been trying to perfect my technique and make sure that they are properly prepared and stand the test of time.
“People have been asking about them ever since I started the carvings, and as I’m now starting to run out of space I think it would be nice to see them dotted around the country,” he continued.
“I’ll be offering them for sale at the winery, but I might consider travelling if people have a piece of wood they really want to see carved.”
