THE 17-YEAR-OLD man who died as a result of an incident in North Street, Montrose, late on Thursday was Adam Paton, of Montrose Street, Brechin.
A 16-year-old male, who lives in Arbroath, was arrested in connection with the incident a short time later and will appear at Arbroath Sheriff Court on Monday.
Emergency services were called to the North Street/ Mount Avenue junction by a member of the public following a disturbance about 11.15pm.
When police arrived they found Paton badly injured and despite their attempts to resuscitate him, he died at the roadside.
Following the incident police threw a cordon around the residential area of North Street and Mount Avenue and a detailed examination of the area was carried out by specialised forensic officers and house to house enquiries were made by the police.
During the initial investigations some residents were not permitted to leave their homes and police volunteered to complete the morning milk delivery to houses in the area.
One resident said there had been a lot of anti-social behaviour by a small number of people in the area over the past five years.
The cordon was lifted at lunchtime yesterday, 12 hours after the incident.
Anyone who was in the area at the time and may have information is asked to contact Tayside Police on 01307 302200.
