RAIL TRAFFIC was delayed for a time yesterday morning after a lorry struck the bridge carrying the main east coast line over the A92 at Inverkeilor.
The blue articulated DAF lorry, which was carrying fertiliser, struck the bridge parapet at around 11.20am.
A police spokesperson said traffic was diverted around the scene via Gilchorn.
“Network Rail was immediately advised and trains were able to continue past under extreme caution,” added the spokesperson.
Attempts were then made to remove the trailer’s load so that the lorry could be reversed out.
Inverkeilor bridge has a long history of vehicle strikes.
However, these have become few and far between since an infra-red “overheight vehicle divert” system of warning lights was put in place a number of years ago.
