Women across the nation will be gathering at Kilgraston School, Bridge of Earn, for the Scottish Women’s Rural Institute residential summer school from August 11-15.
Every year the event is held in a different area, giving members of the SWRI the chance to experience another part of Scotland.
Chairwoman Alison Bayley said, “Members are encouraged to express themselves and try out new things, and it provides the ideal opportunity for like-minded women to meet and participate in subjects that are of interest.”
Alison continues, “It’s a chance for members to get away, enjoy a break and learn a new skill.
“We offer a variety of courses each year, responding to the suggestions from the members themselves to keep them as interesting and exciting as possible.”
This year’s event is expected to attract 120 members in Perthshire.
Courses will include basic embroidery, canvas work, gardening, hand-bell ringing and machine quilting.
There is also a programme called Out And About Perthshire, in which members will be spending their days exploring the sights of Perthshire.
Some of the classes have already proved very popular. Calligraphy, canvas work and bridge are already fully subscribed.
Alison said, “Our summer school courses are so successful because we offer such a broad range of activities, catering to the different interests of our members.
“It also offers the chance to enjoy time away with other members who have similar interests, and in many cases can lead to members forming long- lasting friendships. We look forward to what promises to be an entertaining week.”
