THREE FIFE school pupils were injured in a bus crash in Kincardine yesterday morning.
The pupils, from Dunfermline High School, were taken to Stirling Royal Infirmary along with the driver of the vehicle.
None of the injuries sustained was serious.
A local resident described how the Rennies single-decker bus appeared to have hit a lamppost near the former power station.
The bus was fitted with seatbelts but Fife Council could not confirm whether the pupils had been wearing them.
A council spokeswoman said, “The bus was carrying around 50 pupils from S1 to S6. As it happens the majority were 12-14 yearolds as the older pupils are on study leave and only go into school if they have exams.
“The bus was fitted with seatbelts but for pupils over 14 it is their own responsibility to ensure they are wearing their seatbelts.”
School rector Brian Blanchflower said, “Three pupils who received minor injuries were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. The driver of the vehicle was also hurt.
“Pupils were taken from the scene to Tulliallan Primary School where they were checked thoroughly by paramedics before either returning home or being bussed to Dunfermline High School.
“The bus travelling from the Tulliallan area operates the yellow bus pass scheme and the school has contacted the parents of the children involved using contact details from this.”
Police are investigating the crash and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Rennies declined to comment on the incident yesterday.
