A SHERIFF has heard how a man wandered into a stranger’s home in the middle of the night and made advances towards her.
Narinder Singh, from Dunfermline, was clearly drunk and only left when one of the women’s children shouted “Get out! Get out!”
The woman and her children were shaken by their encounter with the 37-year-old, whose name has been added to the sex offenders’ register.
Singh, of Wedderburn Street, admitted a breach of the peace at an address in Gillie Court, Dunfermline, on January 29.
He entered an unsecure house, made sexual comments and suggestions, refused to leave when asked to by the occupant and put others in a state of fear and alarm.
He also admitted assaulting the woman by rubbing her legs, attempting to kiss her and making sexual comments towards her.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf told Sheriff Johanna Johnston the offence took place at around midnight.
The woman, who is 44, was at home with her children, two of whom were still up. Her front door was unlocked and Singh suddenly appeared at the living room door.
“She was startled by him being there and asked him what he wanted,” Miss Yousaf said.
Singh replied, “You.”
The woman did not know what to do and Singh sat down next to her on the sofa and began talking to her.
She was scared and kept talking to keep him happy. It was clear he was under the influence.
He told them his name was Michael and he was 29 years old, and asked about the woman’s children.
He then tried to put his arm around her, but she told him not to as her children were present.
Singh tried to kiss her and was heard making sexual comments at which point the woman managed to push him off.
One child began to cry and shouted at him, “Get out! Get out!”
Singh said “Okay, okay,” and left.
As soon as he was gone the woman locked her door and called the police.
Solicitor Andrew Robb asked Sheriff Johnston to accept his client’s actions were due to drink and there was no significant sexual motive.
He pointed out as soon as Singh’s “advances” were rebuffed he got up and left.
“Drunk as he was, Mr Singh’s position was that he misinterpreted the complainer as welcoming his presence,” Mr Robb added.
But Sheriff Johnston said there was a significant sexual element.
She deferred sentence until next month for reports.
