Paraglider injured in crash leaves hospital

A PARAGLIDER pilot who walked away with minor injuries after crashing in the Angus glens left hospital yesterday.

The 46-year-old, from the Kirriemuir area, suffered a cracked rib and internal bruising when he came down in the Broom Hill—Dog Hillock area of Glen Doll, at the head of Glen Clova, on Monday afternoon.

He was plucked to safety by a Scottish Ambulance Service helicopter which found him after a sweep of the mountainous area.

The crew landed close to the crash scene and a paramedic tended the flyer before he was flown to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

He spent the night there being treated before leaving for his home yesterday morning.

A police spokesman said inquiries to establish the cause of the accident were continuing.

The pilot sparked a search-and-rescue operation after contacting emergency services on his mobile phone to say he had come down on a hillside shortly before 2.30pm.

He had taken off from Ben Reid, a 796-metre peak close to Loch Brandy, in light winds and blue skies with few clouds.
