POLICE IN Fife have hit out at what they have called “biker madness” in the wake of an incident in which two motorcyclists were caught side by side at a speed close to 140mph.
Yesterday the deputy head of road policing, Inspector David Houston, said the pair had been detected as they sped along the road between Falkland and Dunshalt in the Howe of Fife, allegedly at 138mph.
He said officers had been busy on country roads, and there had been close emphasis on the behaviour of motorists in north-east Fife.
He said that the two bikers are to be reported to the procurator fiscal in Cupar for dangerous driving.
“The excellent weather this week has seen a rise in the number of motorcyclists using that network and my officers have deployed in numerous locations to monitor the behaviour of all road users.
“This particular case highlights the speeds that some motorists foolishly consider to be acceptable,” he said. Cameras would be deployed on rural roads over the summer to deter such behaviour.
