A MOTORCYCLIST has died after his bike was in collision with a car just outside Kirriemuir last night.
The man, who is understood to have been 23 and from the local area, has yet to be named by police.
He was pronounced dead at the scene after his green Kawasaki was involved in a collision with the rear of a metallic grey Vauxhall Zafira on the B957 Kirriemuir to Brechin road shortly after 6.20pm.
Both vehicles had been travelling towards Kirriemuir at the time of the crash, which occurred about two miles from the town towards the top of a long straight near Reisk Farm.
It is thought the biker may have been travelling in tandem with a yellow motorcycle at the time of the collision.
A police officer told The Courier at the scene, “At this time we think it was a local man who was riding the bike.
“An ambulance from Brechin responded to the incident but the biker was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The police officer said, “Our traffic units were quickly on the scene and we have closed the road off for an investigation. At this moment we’re still trying to trace the biker’s family.
“Witnesses are telling us that the motorcyclist may have been travelling with another bike, which was in front at the time.
“He may not have been aware that a collision had occurred and we would be very keen to speak to that rider. We would also ask anybody who saw the two bikes travelling from Forfar via Forest Muir Road and on to Kirriemuir before the crash to get in touch.”
