POLICE IN Dundee have charged an 11-year-old boy after two children were injured with a pellet gun at a city primary school.
Staff and pupils at Barnhill Primary School were questioned by police yesterday following the incident on Wednesday.
Two pupils—a boy and a girl—are understood to have been struck by pellets in the school’s playground.
One of the children was said to have been hit in the neck and the other on the hand.
A primary seven pupil was excluded by the school immediately after the incident.
Last night a spokesman for Tayside Police said that an 11-year-old boy has been charged in connection with Wednesday’s incident and that a report has been sent to the reporter to the Children’s Panel.
The owner of the shop where the gun was bought is now clearing his shelves of the £2.49 pistols following Wednesday’s incident.
Mr Naeem Zaveri, the owner of Zaveri’s Newsagents, on Abercromby Street, said, “I’ve been selling it for a long time and have never had any problems before.
“I don’t think I want to sell them any more once this batch runs out.”
The air pellet gun’s packaging warns that it should not be considered a toy or sold to children under the age of 14.
Recorded firearms casualties in Scotland rose by a quarter in 2006-07—one in three of them children and 58% involving air weapons.
Last year, Tayside Police warned parents against buying toy, BB or pellet guns for their children, fearing their misuse could spark a tragedy.
