New strikers the goal for McIntyre

DUNFERMLINE manager Jim McIntyre has admitted his top priority is to get at least two new strikers signed up in time for next season.

With last season’s mass exodus including the likes of Mark Burchill and Stevie Crawford, McIntyre is the only recognised forward left at East End Park.

When asked what was top of his wish list, the Pars boss told Courier Sport yesterday, “We need two strikers.”

The Fifers are in talks with a number of players, but McIntyre said no deals have been done.

He admitted it was proving hard to attract players after the team failed to gain promotion to the SPL.

Athletic simply cannot afford to pay top- flight wages now they have been consigned to another season in the First Division.

“It is difficult,” he said.

“We are trying to get some quality signings in, but it is hard because most teams are after the same players.

“We are working really hard behind the scenes, but I don’t think anything’s going to happen over the next couple of days.”

The club are also waiting to hear from midfielder Darren Young, who has been offered a new contract.

“We’ve not received an answer yet,” McIntyre said.
