Godman boost for Edinburgh

PHIL GODMAN has re-signed for Edinburgh and is looking forward to the competition for the stand-off slot with Chris Paterson next season, writes Steve Scott, rugby correspondent.

The 25-year-old has agreed a new deal after a renaissance under Andy Robinson, having missed the Rugby World Cup last year and found himself dropped from the Edinburgh team in early season.

He returned to the team in November and has been an ever-present since, rounding off the season with the visit to Llanelli on Saturday.

Edinburgh have also announced that prop Augusto Allori, stand-off Alistair Warnock and wing Andrew Maxwell will all leave the club at the end of the season.

Scotland ‘A’ team head coach, Rob Moffat, has selected a 27 man squad to travel to North America next month for the 2008 Barclays Churchill Cup.

The team will be captained by Glasgow Warriors hooker, Fergus Thomson, who was surprisingly left out of the full Scotland squad to tour Argentina, having played in the last two tests of the Six Nations.

Leicester prop David Young, ex-Glenrothes, is among those selected for the tournament, where Scotland A will play Canada in Ottawa on June 7 and an Argentina XV in Kingston, Ontario on June 11.

The final of the tournament is over the border in Chicago on June 21.
