A CAVALCADE of iconic English-built cars, driven by Belgian enthusiasts, had a pit stop in Angus yesterday as part of a Scottish tour.
The roar of 60 engines announced the dramatic arrival of the Morgan Belgium Club to Glamis Castle, part of a week-long tour of the country’s landmarks.
Visitors to the serene surroundings of the historic home of the earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne did a double-take as the seemingly endless convoy descended on the castle.
The hand-built cars, some modern and others with a good few miles and years on the clock, made a spectacular entrance as they travelled down the long drive to the castle.
It marked the climax of a dream which stretched back to last year when continental club members visited the Morgan factory in Worcestershire.
The seeds were sown back then for a trip to Scotland and were firmed up by a delegation which earlier visited to draw up a route.
Glamis was put in the picture after members spotted a promotional leaflet showing a single Morgan tootling down the mile-long avenue to the castle.
Castle spokeswoman Gill Crawford said, “Somehow they came across the leaflet and took it from there.
“They made a few inquiries and... decided Glamis was a must.
“Morgan is a big part of British heritage and it was nice to see the cars and the castle together in such stunning style.”
The club has taken 130 people to Scotland in 60 cars, having arrived on the Zeebrugge-Rosyth ferry at the weekend.
Their tour also includes St Andrews.
