A MAJOR police investigation was launched in the Angus village of Edzell yesterday after the body of a young woman was discovered in a tent.

The 22-year-old had been camping on land not far from Edzell Castle. A passing hillwalker made the grim discovery of her body just after 3pm.

The area was immediately sealed off as police carried out a detailed examination.

Last night a police spokeswoman said, “As with all sudden deaths a post-mortem examination will take place and a full report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Police are withholding the name of the dead woman until next of kin have been informed and a positive identification has taken place but it is understood she did not live locally.
