Visitors to an antique centre near Perth airport are enjoying a close-up view of a pair of oystercatchers and their offspring. Chiefly a shore bird, the distinctive creatures—with their black and white plumage, orange bills and pink legs—seem oblivious to the steady stream of the centre’s customers after they set up home in a flowerpot there. Now three chicks have been born, and the family is an alternative attraction to browsing for antiques. Nan Meikleour of Destiny Antiques said, “It seems such an unusual thing for the birds to nest so near to a building—all the customers are enjoying the sight.”
