EDZELL CASTLE travelled back in time at the weekend when it welcomed members of Fraser’s Dragoones to the site for their annual visit.
Swordplay, musketry and the boom of cannon fire were the order of the day for The Sealed Knot—the most northerly regiment of the Civil War Society.
Members took visitors to the castle on a trip back to the 17th century, re-enacting the preparations of the Covenanters as they moved to defend against Cromwell’s invading army.
During the two-day event visitors also got the chance to wander round a mock up soldiers’ camp and meet characters including the minister and camp surgeon.
The ever-popular annual event continued to draw the crowds and although the weather was occasionally damp, organisers believe a great time was had by all.
“It has been very good,” said a spokesperson at the castle. “The weather could have been slightly better but it didn’t dampen the spirits really.
“As far as we and the Dragoones are concerned it has been a very good weekend. The comments from visitors have also been great and they all enjoyed it.”
