Concern over signs on new stretch

THE OPENING of the fly-over at Ballinluig has been hailed as a “significant contribution’’ to road safety, but some motorists feel that the blackspot may simply have been shifted.

The flyover provides for drivers to pass over the A9 without the need for dangerous right hand turns in the face of oncoming traffic.

The upgrade follows several fatal accidents in the area.

Now it may be that sign-posting on the new stretch of the A9 itself at Ballinluig could lead to accidents.

A woman on her way to Pitlochry said, “There are particular problems on the various sections where the A9 changes from single to dual carriageway as some vehicles jockey into position, moving far too close to the car in front.’’

She said the new section of road has a sign indicating dual carriageway, however on moving into the outside lane a driver will find hatching.

“It means that you quickly have to move back into single file which is not a good thing to do on a road where some people drive like madmen.

“This sign-post is too soon, it should be further north where the dual carriageway actually begins.’’

A male driver echoed her sentiments, “Some guy behind me nearly ran into my car.

“He was all ready to go into the signposted dual carriageway which was not there.”
