THE BUILD-UP to the Curtis Cup clash, which will see Great Britain and Ireland take on the USA, continued yesterday in St Andrews.
As preparations for the event over the Old Course neared completion, full details of road closures and parking restrictions were announced.
There will be 40mph limits on the main A91 near the St Andrews boundary from Friday until Sunday.
Several roads, including The Links, Gibson Place, Old Station Road and Granny Clark’s Wynd, will be closed from today until midnight on Sunday.
There will be no parking in Pilmour Place and Ellice Place, while the car parks at the Bruce Embankment and Gibson Place will close to the public.
Local golf courses will also be affected. The New and Eden courses will close at times to allow movement on holes next to the Old Course.
The nine-hole Balgove Course will close today at 4pm, to be used for parking, and re-open on Monday at noon.
The official opening ceremony will take place on the first tee of the Old Course at 6pm tomorrow.
A trust spokesman said, “It will be necessary to close the first tee at 4.40pm and the 18th hole from 5pm to 7pm. Play from noon onwards on the Old Course will be restricted to local golfers only.
“Guests will be permitted, although it should be noted that, with the 18th hole closing for two hours, it might not be possible for all golfers to complete their round.”
No tickets are required for the opening ceremony, which will feature a choir from Madras College performing the national anthems of participating countries. There will also be a performance by the City of St Andrews Pipe Band.
The tournament is all-ticket, with spectators restricted to 8000 each day.
