Striker joins Raith

RAITH ROVERS have snapped up Ayr United striker Gareth Wardlaw on a one-year deal.

The transfer represents something of a homecoming for Fifer Wardlaw (29), who was born in Kirkcaldy and joined Ayr from Burntisland Shipyard.

Wardlaw made 116 appearances in three-and-a-half years for the Honest Men, netting 28 times.

“Gareth has plenty experience of the Second Division, having been at Ayr United since 2004, and will give us added options and competition in the striking department,’’ said Rovers boss John McGlynn.

“I have never come across a player who was so keen to sign and the fact that he really wants to be at Raith Rovers is a massive boost to the club.”

Raith have re-signed Mark Campbell for a further 12 months.

Third Division champions EAST FIFE have confirmed they will play first-division champions Hamilton Accies in a friendly fixture at New Bayview on Thursday, July 24, at 7.30pm.

The Methil club will welcome the promoted club as a replacement for Luton Town, who were scheduled to face Dave Baikie’s men that night.
