MEMBERS OF Angus Council’s infrastructure services committee will tomorrow consider detailed proposals which, if given the go-ahead, will see the redevelopment of Carnoustie’s seafront area at a cost of over £1 million.
Fourteen contractors from all over Scotland and as far afield as Bury, Lancashire, have expressed an interest in carrying out the work, with six being invited to submit tenders.
Public consultation on the outline proposals was undertaken earlier this year with the vast majority of respondents calling for the emphasis to be on outdoor leisure and play.
A key element of the enlarged play area will be the provision of a bespoke piece of equipment aimed at eight to 15-year-olds.
The intention is to provide a focal point to the play area by designing a major one-off unit which is imaginative and exciting to look at and play on.
Six companies were invited to submit draft proposals for the unit and, of the five which did so, The Children’s Playground Company was considered to best meet the requirements and has been nominated as the sub-contractor for the supply and installation of the unit.
In his report to the committee, Angus Council’s director of infrastructure services Eric Lowson says, “The seafront at Carnoustie is an important leisure and recreational resource but facilities are currently limited and the area is in need of regeneration.
“The redevelopment of the seafront will regenerate the area and provide a popular and exciting attraction in the town.”
