Dance evolves through the ages

DANCE STUDENTS from Adam Smith College have been putting the finishing touches to their forthcoming show.

Evolution is a new showcase of choreography and group dances created throughout the year by students on the college’s NQ Dance course.

Each performer has had the opportunity to present their own choreography, as well as perform in different styles of dance.

The dances have followed a ‘through the ages’ theme each year, taken mainly from films and musical theatre shows from 1920 to the present day.

To prepare for the shows, the students have been working hard with the guidance of college lecturer Morven Strain.

NQ dance student Shauna Lynch (17), from Dunfermline, said, “The show is a celebration of dance on musicals soundtracks from the 20th century up to the present day and includes music from popular musicals such as the recent Broadway hit Hairspray, West Side Story and High School Musical.

“This is the first big show most of us have performed in and although we are a bit nervous we are looking forward to showing what we can do.”

Loren Brown (18), from Kirkcaldy, added, “We are all really excited about the show, but also hoping that it all goes well.

“We have been practising loads and it has been great experience for us.”

Performances will be held in the Adam Smith College drama studio at Kirkcaldy’s St Brycedale Campus at 2pm and 7.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Tickets, priced £5 for adults and £2 for students and concessions, are available at the studio door or through the box office on 01592 223510.
