THE FIFE EmployAbility Team is using Learning Disability Week to highlight the work carried out in Fife.
The team, part of Fife Council’s social work service, helps disabled people to find and stay in work.
Starting on June 15, Learning Disability Week aims to raise awareness of issues that affect people with learning disabilities and their families.
People with learning disabilities want to work and the EmployAbility Team provides a wide range of services, including Work Options, which offers employment advice and support to adults who use West Fife Community Support Service. This includes a Prepare for Work course.
Lynn Anderson now works at Wetherspoons in Kirkcaldy. “I completed Prepare for Work last year, and then moved into a work placement. Six weeks later I secured my first paid job and I’m loving it,” she said.
Mary McInally was supported to do an elementary food hygiene course that led to a placement at Deep Sea World, North Queensferry.
Staff were so impressed by her commitment she was offered paid work in the cafe two days a week. She loves being part of the team and doing her job well.
Since it was established in 2002 Work Options has worked with more than 100 people to help them move towards their employment goals.
