Running festival’s hopes

ORGANISERS OF this year’s Glenrothes Road Running Festival hope more young runners than ever will be among those taking part in the annual event a week tomorrow.

Fife’s Active Schools co-ordinators have been busy visiting educational establishments all over the region to encourage pupils to participate in the popular event, with early indications showing the response will be very good indeed.

“Here in Glenrothes, Carleton Primary School alone has revealed that no fewer than 80 of their pupils have decided to take part,” said race co-ordinator Steven Donnelly.

The day will be centred around the Fife Sports Institute in Viewfield Road and will feature a variety of entertainment and attractions for all the family, including a free creche from 8.30am until pm.

Proceedings begin with the traditional Junior Track Jog at 10.15am and the 300 metre run round the Sports Institute track will cost entrants just £1 on the day.

The 10k Road Race will start at 10.30am and is open to everyone aged 15 and over, with entry £8 in advance or £10 on the day.

This 4k Fun Run, open to runners of all ages, will cost £2 to enter on the day while the biathlons, for 10-12-year-olds, 13-15-year-olds and seniors, are expected to attract even more entries this year.

Entry forms have already been issued to everyone who took part in last year’s event but they are also still available from the Sports Institute by calling 01592 583305.
