A BUILDING familiar to generations is being demolished in Perth.
Despite pressure by the Architectural Heritage Society to retain at least the frontage of 11 York Place, the building is being removed to make way for flats.
Built in 1909 and designed by James Marshall, it was described by the society as “almost certainly the only surviving, unaltered, purpose-built Edwardian motor car garage in Perthshire, possibly Scotland.”
The society said they were “appalled” by the prospect of losing the entire building and felt the red sandstone facade could have been incorporated into any flats plan.
Melville’s Garage closed in 2005 and the building has lain empty since then.
