Fit mum goes from strength to strength

A SUCCESSFUL female bodybuilder from Fife has won another two top titles.

Layla Docherty (34), from Kirkcaldy beat stiff competition to win the Miss Figure 2008 award at the British Natural Bodybuilding Federation Scottish Championships which were held at the Hilton hotel in Glasgow on Sunday.

She was also chosen by judges to take home the Best Presentation title trophy.

The BNBF is a highly acclaimed non-profit making organisation which adheres to a very stringent drug testing policy for all competing athletes.

The married mother-of-two has gone from strength to strength in the bodybuilding stakes in the last two years, having won the Miss Scotland Figure title in 2006 at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange and winning second place in the fiercely competitive ProLab Classic event in Lochgelly.

Layla, who works as a fitness instructor at Priory Park Gym in Kirkcaldy, described her latest triumph as a “dream come true.”

She said, “These are national titles and to win them for the first time is amazing. I was totally gobsmacked as the competition was really stiff but I was equally over the moon.

“It took a lot of hard work and a very strict protein diet to get me to this stage, but I also had a lot of encouragement from wonderful friends and my family.

“I would also like to thank my sponsors from the Templehall Gym in Kirkcaldy where I train for all their fantastic help and support.”

Layla will now compete in the BNBF British finals on October 12.
