A TEAM of Newport fund-raisers are preparing for the MoonWalk in Edinburgh and the Race For Life in Dundee this weekend.

Some of the group will embark on the MoonWalk late on Saturday evening and pound 26 miles to raise money for breast cancer causes.

Others will run 5km around Camperdown Park on Sunday for Cancer Research UK.

One of them—Audrey Bargeton—will be attempting to do both, despite the end of the MoonWalk and the start of the Race For Life being just hours apart.

Audrey and six of her friends—sisters Stacia and Vicky Laurence, Susie Oliver, sisters Gillian McKay and Lyndsey Pert and their dad David Pert— hope to cross the finishing line of the MoonWalk around 7am.

Four hours later Audrey will be at the starting line of the Race For Life with her daughter Sarah (7), Sarah’s friends Hannah Thorne, Daisy Johnston and Rosie Kelly, and their mothers.

Audrey had already signed up for the MoonWalk when the date for the Race For Life was announced, which she had promised she would run with Sarah.

She told The Courier, “It’s going to be a challenge but it’s for a very good cause.

“We are all looking forward to raising a lot of money.”

Anyone wishing to sponsor either group can hand donations into Little Charmers in Newport’s Cupar Road.
