Vulcan on track for Leuchars

AN ICONIC cold war Vulcan aircraft has completed a final series of test flights before its intended return to displays.

Those working to return bomber Vulcan XH558 to the air display circuit will now have to wait several weeks for the issue of its permit to fly.

It is hoped the Vulcan’s first display will be at RAF Waddington next month and that it will appear at the RAF Leuchars Airshow in September.

Vulcan To The Sky club member Jim Ritchie, of St Andrews, said, “This marks the end of the second phase of the return to flight of this complex airframe, the first and to date the only time that this type of project has been attempted.

“She is also the subject of an educational programme to encourage young people to enter the field of engineering and design.”
