A 19-YEAR-OLD man was arrested after leaping from the first floor of a Dundee tenement following an hour-long stand-off with police last night.
Crowds watched the drama unfold in Provost Road after two men barricaded themselves in a first-floor flat. Police arrived at the scene shortly before 8pm in relation to another matter.
The men shut themselves in the flat and resisted police attempts to talk them out of the property.
The crowd heard the sounds of furniture being smashed in the flat and at one point one man climbed out of the living room window and attempted to climb up a drainpipe to the second floor of the building.
However, he gave up his attempt and climbed back into the flat until riot police arrived to break down the door to the property.
At this point he clambered back onto the drainpipe and jumped into the garden below— where police were waiting for him.
Although he injured his leg, he was conscious after the fall and was taken to Ninewells Hospital by ambulance for treatment.
People in the crowd cheered ironically as the man was taken into the ambulance using a wheelchair.
A man was later charged.
A second person in the flat was arrested after police gained entry to the flat and he has also been charged.
Inspector Bryan Knight said, “At 19.40 hours we got a call and attended this address in Provost Road.
“A disturbance ensued and two males were barricaded in the flat.”
