Pupils at the Royal School of Dunkeld held a farmers’ market yesterday as part of a class project on environmental issues, bringing 20 stalls—and lots of customers—to the school. The 23 children in the primaries four and five class have been working with local farmers and other producers in their study on the theme of sustainability. Teacher Kim Ramsay explained that they have been learning about the processes involved in bringing food to the consumer. Yesterday’s market, which had reducing “food miles” as one of its aims, promoted local produce and was organised by the pupils themselves. Wares on offer included Dunkeld smoked salmon, ice-cream, meat from Rotmell Farm near Dunkeld, and treats from Chocolat of Aberfeldy.
