Dundee couple injured in collision

Emergency crews at the scene of the accident.

A COUPLE in their 70s were taken to hospital, the husband with serious injuries, after a Travel Dundee bus and a car were in collision in the city’s Victoria Road yesterday.

Police said the couple had been alighting from the bus when the accident happened.

The 79-year-old man was last night said to have suffered a broken ankle, fractured knee and collarbone and cuts and bruises.

The couple were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Ninewells Hospital by ambulance.

The 55-year-old driver of the car, a Vauxhall Zafira, has been charged in connection with the incident and a report will go to the procurator fiscal, police confirmed last night.

The accident occurred at around 4.20pm, forcing the closure of both lanes across a large section of Victoria Road at the start of the rush hour.

The northbound lane was closed to traffic for approximately 40 minutes before reopening shortly after 5pm.

However, the southbound lane remained closed as accident investigators surveyed the area.

Passengers from seven Travel Dundee buses had to alight and find other means of travel after the buses they were travelling on became stuck as a result of the accident.
