KIRRIEMUIR Community Council is following up a suggestion by community councillor Elliot Clark to honour the Cameron family, whose Scottish Country Dance Band music was popular worldwide from the 1930s to well into the 1960s.
Council chairman Roland Proctor said that when serving in Malaya in the early 1970s he and his family were holidaying in the Cameron Highlands and as he walked through the small town of Tanah Ratah he could not believe his ears as he heard the tune Caddam Woods from a small cafe nearby. It was the music of Jim Cameron’s dance band.
Mr Proctor found the local cafe owner enraptured by the Beltona 78 record of Jim Cameron and his Scottish dance band.
Bruce Walker, the local sculptor, has been commissioned to produce a memorial slab to commemorate this famous family which will be laid in Cumberland Close.
