Returning to help get youngsters in swing

TWO KIRRIEMUIR-COACHED women making it big in the golf world returned to Angus yesterday to inspire youngsters to follow their examples.

Professionals Jenna Wilson (22) and Pamela Feggans (24) demonstrated skills to young enthusiasts learning the tricks of the sport in the town.

Jenna, on the European Tour, and Pamela, in the thick of it in the US Futures Tour, took time out to visit the area and put something back into the golf community.

The pair are the products of a coaching scheme for juniors run by Kirrie professional Karyn Dallas, who now has 180 youngsters under her wing.

Aged five to 18, they are put through their paces by Karen and a team of volunteers who have been nurturing the young talent.

One of those with a keen interest and involvement in the scheme at Kirriemuir Golf Club is Karen’s husband Graham Dallas, a clubmaker at the pro shop.

He said, “The girls have come back to highlight what can be achieved and show the youngsters how far you can go if you work at it.

“We are over the moon that, within five years of launching the programme, two players have reached tour standard. We are hoping to see more Kirriemuir Golf Club members reach that standard.”

Jenna and Pamela are still coached by Karyn, with visits to Kirriemuir for face-to-face sessions as well as guidance over the internet.

Their personal schedules mean they are regularly on the move, with Jenna opting to head to Kirriemuir yesterday when she should have been in Oxford.
