One man died and two others were injured after a horrific crash on the main A9 Perth- Inverness road yesterday morning.
Emergency services raced to the scene after being alerted to the accident around 11.20am.
The accident involving three lorries—two articulated lorries and one rigid goods vehicle— occurred south of Kingussie.
A police spokesman said, “One person sadly sustained fatal injuries as a result of the incident.
“Another has been taken to Raigmore Hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries.”
The third driver was not seriously injured.
The road was still closed by late afternoon due to the problems of recovering the large vehicles involved.
Diversions were put in place along the old A9 via Kingussie.
One lorry overturned as a result of the collision.
It is understood the accident happened on a three-lane stretch of the road designed to give priority to traffic from one direction.
The crash brings the death toll on the roads in the Northern Constabulary area so far this year to nine.
