Injury robs Holmes of Romanian challenge

SUMMER SIGNING Graeme Holmes will miss Dunfermline’s final tour match, writes Graeme Dey in Austria.

The Pars face CFR Timisoara in Bischofshofen tonight.

But Holmes will sit that one out owing to the hamstring strain he suffered against Metallurg on Sunday.

“Graeme won’t play but we think he’ll be back fit within a few days,” said player-manager Jim McIntyre.

However two of the players forced to miss the opener with minor strains are set to feature against the Romanian second division outfit.

“Calum Woods will be involved after resuming training today and we also expect Stuart Dearden to be ready,” said McIntyre.

However midfielder Nicky Phinn is doubtful while Iain Williamson seems certain to remain on the sidelines.

“Iain is getting better after the stomach bug but while he’s now managing to keep food down I can’t see him playing,” said the manager.

German trialist Joseph Laumann trained with the Pars for the first time yesterday and is a definite starter.

“Looking at him this morning he’s obviously behind the rest of the boys fitness wise but we expected that,” said McIntyre.

“It’s also hard to judge him on one training session especially when he doesn’t know any of the lads and is having to get used to our way of doing things.

“We’ll see how he does in the game.”

McIntyre is demanding a repeat of the performance his charges gave against Metallurg.

“I’m looking for more of the same from the other night. If we knock the ball about and play at the high tempo we did against the Ukrainians then I’ll be quite happy.”
