Town’s colourful history brought to life

WILLIAM WALLACE and King Robert the Bruce were among the guests at the launch of Dunfermline’s Living History programme.

In the coming weeks, actors will be in character to recount the stories of historical figures linked to the town.

Dunfermline Heritage Trust chairman Craig Lindsay said, “It will be fantastic to see a range of characters bring the historic area of Dunfermline to life.

“Two characters each day will be in and around Abbot House, the abbey, palace, and also venturing into the centre to encourage tourists and locals to come and see the range of attractions that Dunfermline has to offer.”

Abbot House manager Ann Steedman added, “We decided to feature major figures that are closely linked to Dunfermline.

“The most important in our mind was King Robert the Bruce, who is buried in the abbey.

“Many people argue that Margaret and Malcolm Canmore do not get as high a profile as they perhaps deserve and we hope that, by featuring Queen Margaret in this project, this will go some way to addressing those concerns and help raise awareness of the important role she played in Dunfermline’s history.”
