SHAUN JAPPY (23), a Montrose man injured when he was involved in a collision with a car in the town last Friday, has died at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

Mr Jappy, of Glenesk Avenue, died in the early hours of yesterday.

He was walking in Baltic Street when he was involved in the collision with a black Mini Cooper at about 11.30pm on Friday.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken by ambulance to hospital in Dundee.

His condition was so serious the ambulance was met on the road by a trauma team sent from the hospital.

Police said officers were continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident and have spoken to a number of witnesses who have been able to provide valuable information.

They are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the Baltic Street area at the time of the incident, or anyone with information useful to the investigation. They can be contacted on 0845 600 5705, or witnesses should speak to any officer.

A report on the incident will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Last night, Mr Jappy’s mother Shona and the rest of her family were too distraught to speak about the incident.
