Laurencekirk gala

THE MARQUEE has gone up in Memorial Park and a week of events is under way in the build-up to Saturday’s gala day in Laurencekirk.

Children are enjoying the chance to see some exotic creatures courtesy of the visiting Zoolab.

Last night a concert was organised in the marquee with entertainment from the Sound of Dun. Tonight sees a treasure hunt and there is a quiz night tomorrow.

On Saturday entertainment ranges from the parachuting skills of the Golden Lions and the excitement of the annual procession, to pipe-bands and a jam-packed array of stalls.

There will also be such things as a mini assault course, bouncy castle, bucking bronco, sumo suits and an It’s a Knockout competition.

Gala secretary Irene Thom is hopeful that the weather will hold and that the crowds can avoid a repeat of last year’s washout.

Gala Day kicks off at noon with the procession along the High Street to Memorial Park, with the other events beginning once the parade arrives at 1pm.
