A FIFE fisherman landed an unexpected catch at Stenhouse Fishery near Burntisland recently, when he hooked a bat while angling at dusk.
The Benarty man, who wishes not to be named, had been trying out a new ultra-violet luminous line.
He said, “I was casting away quite the thing when I felt a tug on the line which I immediately thought was a fish—but you can only imagine how I felt when my line suddenly took off into the air.
“Now I know there are plenty of trout at Stenhouse as I fish there regularly but until that moment I didn’t think there were any flying fish, and when I drew the line in I discovered that a bat had taken one of my flies.
“Thankfully I was able to release the wee creature, which seemed none the worse for its experience, although I suspect it might be a bit more careful when out looking for a late night snack in the future.”
