Fife duo’s banger trek for CHAS

TWO BUDDING Fife racing drivers will take part in a charity banger rally from Calais in France to Krakow in Poland next month, to raise money for the Children’s Hospice Association of Scotland (CHAS).

Matthew McWilliams and Euan Hart will set off on August 1, under the team name of The Bruce Dickinson Appreciation Society.

The rally is in four stages over the course of four days, with the team receiving a challenge to complete each day and points awarded to the best-dressed team and best-decorated car.

Matthew said, “It is not just about getting to the next checkpoint in the quickest time.

“It appears to be a truly character-building experience which will push our team and our banger to the limit.

“The car is almost roadworthy but still needs some work like new front brakes and two new tyres.”

The rules state the banger must cost less than £100 and be an M-reg or older, with the Fifers using a 1986 D-reg BMW 518i.

Barbara Osborne, CHAS fundraising manager, said, “This is certainly a novel way to raise funds for the essential work that CHAS provides.

“The team will be having an adventure creating some fantastic memories—our families appreciate the value of these memories as that is what they hold on to after their child has died,” she said.
