CAMPAIGNERS SEEKING to erect a memorial to the pioneer of radar saw how Sir Robert Watson-Watt’s invention had developed over the years when they visited RAF Leuchars.
Members of the Watt-Watson Society, including the Earl of Dalhousie, were shown round the Fife airbase by Squadron Leader Blythe Crawford.
They were given an insight into the roles performed at Leuchars and how the RAF’s use of radar had moved on over the years.
Watson-Watt was born in Brechin in 1892 and was instrumental in the development of the UK’s air defence prior to the Battle of Britain and the subsequent development and use of radar.
The Watson-Watt Society hopes to have a permanent memorial to Watson-Watt erected in Brechin.
