Police hunt goes on for knifepoint muggers

DETECTIVES ARE hunting two men who carried out a knifepoint robbery in a lane in Dundee city centre.

The 26-year-old victim cowered in fear on the ground as he was forced to hand over his wallet and mobile phone to his attackers. Fortunately, he was not hurt.

The attack took place in Meadow Lane, a side street off Meadowside between Satchmo’s pub and the exit to the Wellgate car park, shortly after 1am on Friday.

Detective Sergeant Kevin McMahon said yesterday that a sweep of CCTV had identified three potential witnesses to the incident.

One of the men seen on the CCTV was apparently verbally harangued by the two suspects only minutes before the robbery occurred as he walked southwards from Hilltown into Victoria Road.

Two other men—both of whom were relatively young and dressed in white shirts—were also seen arguing with each other at the traffic lights at the rear of the Wellgate shopping centre at around the same time while the suspects looked on.

DS McMahon said it was imperative that the three men come forward and he appealed to anyone else who was in the area at the time and might have seen the attack take place to contact officers.

He said, “There would have been a number of pedestrians who were in the area or were passing that may have seen it along with these other three guys.

“We would be keen to hear from anyone who saw anything or noticed two males running away.”

Police last night issued descriptions of the two men they are seeking in connection with the robbery.

They are both white, in their mid-20s, and at the time of the attack they were both wearing jeans and white trainers. One of the men had a green zipped jacket on while his accomplice was wearing a darker garment.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0845 6005705 or speak to any officer.
