Pars boss happy with build-up

Jim McIntyre.

DUNFERMLINE MAY have claimed two Premier League scalps in the past week, but East End Park boss Jim McIntyre insists he isn’t bothered if they make it a hat-trick at home tonight against his former club, Dundee United.

The Pars beat Hearts 1-0 at East End Park last Tuesday and repeated the feat against Hamilton in a closed doors exercise on Saturday, Stephen Glass grabbing the winner.

McIntyre said yesterday he’s more concerned about his players maintaining the effort and commitment they’ve shown so far and the boost to their fitness.

“It’s another very good game for us to get and we are delighted United are coming down,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to the game.

“It’s another good fitness exercise for us, because they’ll be physically strong and fit.

“All we know is it’s going to be a very difficult game and it’s another step building up to the opener.”

When asked what he hoped to take from tonight’s match, McIntyre replied, “Fitness and more fitness, that’s all that matters.

“It’s nice to win games, but at the end of the day it’s all about getting more game time.

“The result doesn’t matter.”

In spite of a few hiccups, most notably injuries to new signings Steven Bell and Graeme Holmes, the Pars boss is satisfied with the pre- season build up.

“We are pleased with the way things are going, so far,” McIntyre said.

“We know we are short of bodies, but considering what we’ve got, the boys are playing the way we want them to play and they are working really, really hard.

“Their fitness levels are really very good.

“I couldn’t ask for any more,” the boss added.

“Obviously I’d like Bell and Holmes to be fit and Iain Williamson’s practically been ill the whole time, which is really disappointing.

“He was back for a week and came on the other night and did very well against Hearts, but he’s picked up another bug.

“The doctors are putting him through some tests.

“It’s not great considering the squad size we have got, but we just need to get on with things.”

One player who is fit again after recovering from a calf strain is Greg Shields.

He played at the weekend and came through the Accies match unscathed.

“He did very well,” McIntyre added.
