Youth can’t worm out of punishment

AN OFFENDER who was too scared of worms to complete community service was sent to detention for 30 days at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday.

Robert Jeremy Alexander Millar Gallagher (18), Lauderdale Avenue, admitted breaching a 100-hour community service order, imposed after he admitted wilfully setting fire to a bin in Union Street, Newport, on April 27 last year and vandalising a wing mirror of a car.

Sheriff Richard Davidson noted Gallagher had only done 16 and three quarters of the 100 hours and Gallagher had given as an excuse, among other things, that he could not carry it out because the order involved working with mud and he was terrified of worms.

The sheriff said it was more than obvious Gallagher had absolutely no intention of carrying out non-custodial orders of the court.
