FRISKY DUNDEE filmgoers are free to carry on kissing unwatch-ed in the back row for the foreseeable future after Odeon Cinemas confirmed it has no plans to install audience surveillance cameras at Douglasfield.
Nine Odeon cinemas across the UK, including Braehead near Glasgow, have installed £30,000 hi-tech CCTV systems to monitor audience behaviour during screenings.
Cinema bosses say the cameras will help staff to detect criminal activity and piracy as well as ensuring the safety of customers.
But couples overcome with passion could find their exploits on screen as footage will be beamed back to the foyer areas.
A spokeswoman for Odeon denied the cameras are intended to infringe on customers’ privacy, saying, “The cameras are purely for the safety and security of our customers.
“There are no cameras at Odeon Dundee at present—the only cinema in Scotland to have them is Braehead—but that’s not to say they won’t be installed at some point in the future.
