Increased reward to find pet killer

SCOTTISH SPCA officers leading the investigation into the barbaric killing of a schoolboy’s pet rabbit in Dundee are hoping an increased reward will encourage people to come forward with vital information.

The Courier told last week how Brad Milne (11), of Beauly Avenue, Kirkton, had been left distraught by the death of Misty.

The pet had been stolen from its hutch before being killed and skinned.

The rabbit’s pelt was left in the family’s garden after the slaying in the early hours of August 11.

In the aftermath of the incident, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals offered a £1000 reward for information.

The case has yet to be solved, however, and the charity yesterday raised the reward to £1500.

PETA is keen to see the culprit or culprits caught as it believes there is a direct correlation between cruelty to animals and violence towards humans.

PETA spokeswoman Suzanne Bernard said, “Animals are the perfect ‘practice’ victims for those who are excited by violence. Kirkton residents have a possible sociopath still at large among them and we want him or her brought to book.”

A spokeswoman for the SSPCA said it was hopeful the increased reward would persuade people to get in touch with investigating officers.

She said, “We are still hoping somebody will get in touch with information to help us find the person responsible.”

Anyone with information is urged to call the SSPCA on 03000 999999 or contact the police.
