Fights for life after accident

A FIFE man airlifted to hospital following a horrific accident at a Newburgh quarry on Thursday was yesterday fighting for his life.

It has been revealed that the 39-year-old from Kirkcaldy has already had to have one leg amputated, and has undergone surgery on the other.

The accident occurred at the Ennstone Thistle Quarry just to the south of Newburgh in mid-afternoon, and the victim was airlifted to Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital in a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter.

The rescue effort, which also involved a Ninewells trauma team, had been made difficult because of the accident location.

The man is in intensive care and his condition is said to be “critical.”
