Park set to receive £500,000 upgrade

Upgrade in the pipeline—Larghan Park in Coupar Angus.

A PARK in East Perthshire is in line for a £500,000 upgrade, it was revealed last night.

Perth and Kinross Council has set out its proposals for the makeover of Larghan Park in Coupar Angus, which will guarantee the site as a “community resource for the future.”

The move follows a concerted campaign by residents who want the park brought up to modern standards.

It is envisaged that work could start in November if the plans are given the green light.

If passed the proposals will result in a substantial upgrade of the play areas and footpaths, plus the creation of a woodland area, semi-automatic toilets and an additional third entrance for pedestrians.

In addition, the £500,000 upgrade will include a red sandstone gateway, dry stone walls, tarmac footpaths, timber steps and safety play mats.

Biodiversity projects will include a wetland, hedgerow, small orchard and bumblebee meadows, with tree planting to add shelter and enhance the park.

A council spokesman said timber seating and play features will also be built, with stacks from tree bark helping to create a natural wildlife habitat.

“Around 60% of the required funds will be provided by the council, with the rest made up by grants,” he told The Courier.

“The park’s masterplan outlines significant improvements to enhance its facilities and safeguard the park’s value as a community resource for the future.

“A host of improvements are planned, which include expanded play facilities and a pedestrian gateway linking with the new circular path network and relocated memorial gates.”

The plans were devised through partnership with the Friends of Larghan Park, Coupar Angus Regeneration Trust and residents.
