THORNTON Community Council is preparing to unveil the latest step in the rejuvenation of the village this month.
A set of wrought-iron gates at the entrance to Memorial Park has been refurbished by blacksmith Neil Simpson to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of the first world war.
The rededication ceremony will be conducted by Rev Alex Forsyth on September 27, with a Spitfire fly-past at 3pm.
Florist Varrie Wardrope is making garlands the same as those hung when the park opened on September 24, 1921.
A parade will march from the primary school to the gates, led by representatives from all armed forces, the British Legion and veterans from The Black Watch Association.
The community is raising funds to upgrade the park and have held a car boot sale and family night, with primary pupils collecting money in Smarties tubes and planning a sponsored walk.
