Electric shock death trial set

AN ENGINEERING firm and three of its senior staff are to face trial over the electrocution of a workman during construction of the JJB Sports outlet at the Gallagher retail park in Dundee three years ago.

Mitie Engineering Services (Edinburgh) Ltd, William Mitchell (54), Livingston, Scott Wallace (43), Airdrie, and Ian Storrar (48), Falkirk, all deny charges under the Health and Safety at Work Act relating to alleged unsafe working practices that resulted in 26-year-old Michael Ronald Adamson, of Drum Farm Lane, Bo’ness, coming into contact with a live electrical wire on August 4, 2005, causing him to suffer an electric shock and die.

A preliminary hearing was held yesterday to allow the defence to lodge new productions and a list of witnesses and for other matters to be discussed.

Sheriff Elizabeth Munro continued the case to the trial diet of September 15.
