TAYSIDE POLICE have taken the unusual step of appealing for help in tracing a man and a woman from Dundee who are wanted in connection with more than a dozen crimes across the UK.
Warrants have been issued for the arrest of 48-year-old William Stewart and 45-year-old Sandra Hollis of Dundee.
And the police last night appealed to anyone with information about their whereabouts to come forward.
They are being sought in connection with more than a dozen fraud-related crimes which have been carried out in Scotland and England.
All of the offences involve cheques—belonging to various businesses and individuals—being passed off as genuine in payment for expensive goods and services.
On occasions the cheques have been used to pay for bed and board and it is believed that elderly members of the public have fallen victim to this fraud.
The crimes, which are thought to be ongoing, have been committed in Tayside, Fife and Grampian and also in Lancashire.
Tayside Police—with the approval of the procurator fiscal in Angus—last night issued descriptions of the duo and released a photograph of Mr Stewart.
He is described as being six feet tall, heavy build with a Dundee accent.
He has greying hair and usually has a moustache but may have shaved it off.
Sandra Hollis is thought to be about five feet five inches tall, thin build and has dark, shoulder length hair.
Anyone with information which could assist officers in tracing the pair should contact the police immediately on 0845 600 5705.
